With the growing popularity of online streaming services a number of niche platforms have launched recently that are attempting to take a piece of the Netflix pie. Seeso a comedy focused subscription service backed by the might of Comcast and NBC entered the scene earlier this year with apps for all the major platforms.
Something new something old
If you have ever used Netflix or Amazon Prime the interface will be immediately obvious. The free-to-download app has obviously taken some inspiration from the brand leaders but added a number of little touches that improve the watching experience. Putting together playlists changing parental access and genre-based searching tools are all welcome additions to a streaming service. Of course content is king and looking past the professional appearance of Seeso will uncover a range of comedy greats.
Little fish in a big pond
The question then is whether or not it is worth paying the $3.99 a month that Seeso currently charges for unlimited ad-free access with so many other streaming services available. With a focus on classics from British and American TV like The Office and 30 Rock Seeso certainly delivers on hits from yesterday. But with an ever expanding range of shows made for the service it may well please the hardcore comedy fan in time to come.
